Anglicanism recognises two dominical sacraments — sacraments instituted by Christ himself in the Gospels — as central: Baptism, by which a person is received into the Church, and the Eucharist (Holy Communion), the sharing of bread and wine in remembrance of Christ. These two are named specifically in the Lambeth Quadrilateral as part of the basis of Anglican identity.
Alongside these, many Anglican provinces and traditions also recognise five further sacramental rites: Confirmation, Ordination, Matrimony (marriage), Reconciliation of a Penitent (confession), and Anointing of the Sick. These are valued across the Communion, though their exact status and how often they are practised varies between provinces and between Anglo-Catholic and Evangelical parishes.
